Meet our Keynote, Steve Liang!

Our keynote for SKI 2019 is Dr. Steve Liang. Dr. Liang is a researcher, teacher, entrepreneur, and a global influencer of the Internet of Things (IoT) and geospatial technologies. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary. Dr. Liang aims to empower any organization to grow exponentially the value of their data from multiple sensor systems. Dr. Liang is the chair of United Nation's ITU-T working group on IoT data processing and management framework and architectures (FG-DPM WG2) as well as the chair of the Open Geospatial Consortium SensorThings API standard working group. Organizations around the world are using these standards to build their IoT and geospatial applications.

Dr. Liang is also the founder of SensorUp Inc, a world-leading IoT platform company. SensorUp has some world-class clients including Lockheed Martin, Department of Homeland Security, and NASA JPL. SensorUp raised a $2M seed round in 2018 and is now growing rapidly. Dr. Liang received numerous awards, including Killam Emerging Research Leader Award, AITF-Microsoft Industry Research Chair, and Calgary's Top 40 Under 40.
