Getting people to go to a google maps type site, and actually be able to ‘look’ at places where deforestation is currently occurring, glaciers are melting, or coal mine fires are burning, might cause people to gain a better understanding of the scope of the problems.

I recall seeing something slightly similar with aerial photos of clearcut before and fater in the interior BC, which were otherwise hidden from view because of the mountains, they were quite striking.
