Before I read this paper, I was not very familiar with the concept of location based services. There are of course lots of commercial uses of geographic information but this direct discussion of spatial information translating directly into business is very interesting and not something I had thought about. This subject seems like another interesting area that intersects with the topics we have already discussed, such as augmented reality, where location can be used via say, GPS, and various software and hardware to augment individuals surroundings that could direct effect sales and be used for marketing. As mentioned in the paper, privacy is of course another theme that has surfaced often in class and again is an issue here, but there is also a lot of potential for creative uses of spatial information in ways that individuals would appreciate. Looking forward to seeing how others perceive the utility of LBS.
