Will we become extinct?

Here’s an interesting take on extinction: We will genetically modify ourselves sufficiently that we are no longer Homo sapiens sapiens.

Conversely, by modifying ourselves, we will make ourselves extinction-proof.

    Almost entirely unrelated to the article, something this made me wonder: if one of the definitions of a species is the ability to interbreed, it would seem religious or ethical beliefs which prevent certain types of marriage would result in them creating their own species.

    The homo sapiens republicus is known for its inability to successfully mate with the homo sapiens democratus.
