Instant messaging for Dolphins

There is an interesting project on Java.net: instant messaging for whales, dolphins and humans.
Using Seadragon you can emit and acquire underwater whistles and try to communicate with whales and dolphins. The software attempt to recognize the whistles. If it can’t, it’s left to your own interpretation.

this is amazing. I would be so interested to try this. But how, can they be sure, or the user be sure, that the interpretations of the sea creatures’ sounds are correct? Someone could really get their leg pulled easily here! Us ignorant humans, will believe just about anything – if a little computer screen tells us that a whlae is hungry, chances are we will believe it!
